Alejandro Fernández Almendras
Alejandro Fernández Almendras is a Chilean film director and screenwriter known for his socially engaged and minimalist filmmaking style. Born in 1971 in Concepción, Chile, he studied film at the Escuela de Cine de Chile before beginning his career with independent short films and low-budget features.He gained international recognition with Huacho, a naturalistic portrait of rural life in Chile that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. He later directed From Afar, which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary Latin American cinema. His work often explores themes of class, isolation, and everyday survival with restrained, observational storytelling.
