Community rules
This site is a small editorial archive of world cinema. Comments and profiles are public. The rules below keep the place useful and friendly.
1. Be civil
Disagree with films, directors, and movements as much as you like — cinema is meant to provoke. Don't disagree with people. No personal attacks, slurs, harassment, or threats. If you wouldn't say it to a friend at a bar, don't post it here.
2. Stay on topic
Comments belong on the films they discuss. Off-topic noise, advertising, affiliate links, or self-promotion that isn't relevant to the film at hand will be removed.
3. No spam, no bots
Don't post the same content across multiple films. Don't create accounts to upvote your own comments (there are no upvotes anyway). Repeated abuse will be silenced; accounts caught registering en masse will be removed.
4. Respect copyright
Don't link to pirated full-length films or invite users to circumvent the site's clip restrictions. The short illustrative clips on this site are curated for educational and critical purposes; please don't try to turn the site into something else.
5. Use your real-ish self
Pseudonyms are fine — most film criticism is written under noms de plume. Impersonating other users, public figures, or staff is not.
What happens when a rule is broken
Admins can take three actions on a reported comment:
- Dismiss the report if it doesn't actually violate anything.
- Delete the comment if it does.
- Delete the comment and silence the author for repeated or severe violations. A silenced user can still read and use the rest of the site, but cannot post new comments or edit old ones.
Severe abuse (real-world threats, illegal content) will result in the account being removed entirely.
Reporting
See a comment that breaks the rules? Hit the small flag icon next to it and (optionally) give a one-sentence reason. Admins review reports regularly. False reports filed in bad faith are themselves a rule violation.
If you're silenced and disagree
Mistakes happen. Reach out via the contact details on the about page (if available) or simply via an admin's public profile.
