Alf Sjöberg
Alf Sjöberg was a Swedish film and theatre director regarded as one of the leading figures of Scandinavian cinema and stage production in the twentieth century. Born in 1903 in Stockholm, he worked extensively with the Royal Dramatic Theatre and became known for combining psychological depth with expressive visual style. Sjöberg achieved international acclaim with Miss Julie, based on the play by August Strindberg, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. He also directed Torment, written by Ingmar Bergman. His films often explored themes of class conflict, repression, guilt, and human vulnerability, leaving a lasting influence on Swedish cinema and theatre.
