Arild Østin Ommundsen

Arild Østin Ommundsen (born 1969) is a Norwegian writer-director known for low-budget, fiercely independent filmmaking rooted in his home city of Stavanger. He studied directing at Stavanger University College and made his debut feature Mongoland (2001), a generation-defining film for Norwegian indie cinema that is still revived in cinemas at Christmas. His follow-up Monsterthursday (2004) — starring Kim Bodnia, Iben Hjejle, and Vegar Hoel — became the first Norwegian feature invited to the Sundance Film Festival. In 2012 he abandoned the conventional crew model altogether for Eventyrland (It's Only Make Believe), shooting and producing as essentially a one-man band. He has continued to work in genre territory, including the crime comedy series Tomme tønner.
