A.W. Sandberg

A. W. Sandberg (1887–1938) was a pioneering Danish film director, screenwriter, and actor best known for his work during the silent film era. Born Arnold Willemsen, he became one of Denmark’s leading filmmakers in the 1910s and 1920s, directing acclaimed literary adaptations and historical dramas for the studio Nordisk Film. Among his notable works are Klovnen and the ambitious adaptation of David Copperfield. Sandberg’s visually expressive style and sophisticated storytelling helped establish Danish cinema as an important force in early international filmmaking.
