Carlos Cuarón
Carlos Cuarón (born 1966) is a Mexican filmmaker and screenwriter, longtime collaborator with his elder brother Alfonso Cuarón. Born in Mexico City and educated in English literature at UNAM, he honed his screenwriting in workshops with Hernán Lara Zavala, Syd Field, and the Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab. His breakthrough was the screenplay for Alfonso Cuarón's debut Sólo con tu pareja (1991), which won the Ariel Award for Best Original Story. He co-wrote Y Tu Mamá También (2001), which won the Silver Lion for Best Screenplay at Venice and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He made his feature directorial debut with the football-comedy Rudo y Cursi (2008), starring Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, one of the most successful Mexican releases of its era. He mentors emerging Mexican writers at the Sundance Screenwriters Lab and the Morelia Film Festival's Story Lab.
