David Maysles
David Maysles (1931–1987) was an American documentary filmmaker and a key figure in the development of Direct Cinema, a style focused on unobtrusive, observational storytelling. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he initially worked in psychology and advertising research before turning to filmmaking.Alongside his brother Albert Maysles, he co-directed landmark documentaries such as Salesman, Gimme Shelter, and Grey Gardens. Their work is known for its intimate access to subjects and its empathetic, unstructured approach to real-life narratives, helping redefine modern documentary filmmaking.
