Éric Rohmer
Éric Rohmer was a French film director, screenwriter, and film critic, born in 1920 and a leading figure of the French New Wave. Known for his intelligent dialogue, moral themes, and understated storytelling, he directed acclaimed films such as My Night at Maud’s (1969), Claire’s Knee (1970), and The Green Ray (1986). Rohmer also worked as editor of Cahiers du Cinéma, where he helped shape modern film criticism alongside fellow New Wave directors. His films often explored romance, philosophy, and personal ethics through naturalistic conversation and minimalist style.
