Alain Robbe-Grillet

Alain Robbe-Grillet (1922–2008) was a French novelist, screenwriter, and film director, best known as a leading figure of the Nouveau Roman (“New Novel”) literary movement. Born in Brest, France, he became known for his experimental approach to narrative, emphasizing fragmented structure, detailed description, and the rejection of traditional plot and character psychology.Robbe-Grillet also worked in cinema, writing screenplays for films such as Last Year at Marienbad directed by Alain Resnais, before going on to direct his own distinctive, often surreal films, including Trans-Europ-Express. His work across literature and film had a major influence on avant-garde storytelling in the 20th century.
