Alex Law
Alex Law is a Hong Kong film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his intimate dramas and socially conscious storytelling. Born in 1952, he studied film in the United Kingdom before returning to Hong Kong, where he became an important figure in the Hong Kong New Wave cinema movement. Law frequently collaborates with filmmaker and producer Mabel Cheung on films that explore themes of migration, identity, family, and cultural change. His notable works include Echoes of the Rainbow, which won the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Painted Faces. Law’s films are recognized for their emotional warmth, humanistic perspective, and reflections on Hong Kong society and history.
