Amanda Kim
Amanda Kim is a Korean-American documentary filmmaker who made her directorial debut with Nam June Paik: Moon Is the Oldest TV (2023), the first feature documentary on the pioneering video artist often called the father of video art. Raised in Tokyo and a graduate of Brown University, where she studied comparative literature, Kim had no filmmaking background before becoming a creative director at Vice Media, where she developed an interest in long-form storytelling. She spent five years on the Paik documentary, tracing his life from his early years as a rebellious young Marxist in Seoul through his Fluxus origins to his monumental late video works. The film premiered at Sundance and was selected as a pick of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) before its PBS American Masters broadcast.
