Anastasia Lapsui

Anastasia Lapsui is a Nenets filmmaker, screenwriter, and writer born on September 20, 1944, in Yar-Sale, Russia. She is recognized for her films about the Indigenous peoples of the Arctic, particularly the Nenets culture and way of life. Working often in collaboration with filmmaker Markku Lehmuskallio, Lapsui directed acclaimed films such as Seven Songs from the Tundra (2000), considered the first feature film in the Nenets language. Her work combines documentary realism with poetic storytelling, preserving Indigenous traditions and highlighting social and cultural changes in the Arctic region. Anastasia Lapsui is regarded as an important voice in Indigenous and Northern cinema.
