Avie Luthra
Avie Luthra is a British-Indian filmmaker who works between psychiatry and cinema, splitting his time between a forensic-psychiatry practice in London and writing-directing. A 2002 graduate of the directing course at the UK's National Film and Television School, his short Baby won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Student Film that same year. His next short, Lucky (2005), about a five-year-old South African AIDS orphan, premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival, took a special mention at the AFI Festival, and was nominated for the BAFTA for Best Short Film. He extended the story into a feature, Lucky (2010), and made the comedy Mad, Sad and Bad in 2009, premiering in the British Gala at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
