Christoph Hochhäusler

Christoph Hochhäusler (born 1972 in Munich) is a German filmmaker, screenwriter, and film writer associated with the Berlin School. After initially studying architecture, he studied directing at the University of Television and Film Munich, where he made his debut feature Milchwald (2003). His films combine precise visual compositions with psychological and social observation, often exploring alienation, power, class, and tensions within contemporary bourgeois life. His major works include Falscher Bekenner (2005), Unter dir die Stadt (The City Below, 2010), Die Lügen der Sieger (The Lies of the Victors, 2014), and Bis ans Ende der Nacht (Till the End of the Night, 2023), which premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival. Hochhäusler also co-founded the influential film journal Revolver in 1998 and taught directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin. His later work has increasingly incorporated elements of genre cinema, including the French-language neo-noir La Mort viendra (Death Will Come, 2024), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
