follows Svenja, who moves to Frankfurt with her husband, Oliver Steve, after he accepts a position at a major investment bank. Unable to find work and increasingly alienated from her new surroundings and her marriage, Svenja becomes involved with Roland Cordes, her husband’s charismatic and ruthless superior. Cordes, recently celebrated as “Banker of the Year,” is accustomed to manipulating people and eliminating obstacles to achieve his goals. He arranges for Steve to be transferred to a dangerous assignment in Indonesia, allowing him to pursue Svenja without interference. Their affair awakens unexpected emotions in Cordes, but his inability to separate personal desire from his ruthless professional instincts ultimately destroys the relationship. When the affair is exposed, Cordes’s carefully controlled world begins to collapse. He separates from his wife, resigns from his position, and attempts to win Svenja back. Meanwhile, the financial system around him descends into crisis. The film concludes with Svenja and Cordes together in a hotel as panic spreads through Frankfurt, suggesting that the collapse of their private and professional worlds is only beginning.
