Idrissa Ouédraogo
Idrissa Ouédraogo (1954–2018) was a Burkinabé film director and screenwriter whose films brought international attention to African cinema. Known for his poetic storytelling and exploration of tradition, modernity, and rural life, he gained worldwide acclaim with Tilaï (1990), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. For Samba Traoré (1993), he won the Silver Bear at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. Ouédraogo is widely regarded as one of the most important African filmmakers of his generation. He died in 2018. He was given a military funeral where politicians, religious figures and artists were present.
