István Szõcs
István Szőts (1912–1998) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter, regarded as one of the most important figures in Hungarian cinema. He is best known for his poetic, humanistic films that explored rural life, social hardship, and moral questions. His landmark film Men of the Mountains (Emberek a havason, 1942) received international recognition and won awards at the Venice Film Festival. Szőts’s work influenced later generations of Hungarian filmmakers, and he is remembered for his distinctive visual style and commitment to artistic independence. His acclaimed films include Men of the Mountains and Song of the Cornfields (1947).
