Jayro Bustamante

Jayro Bustamante (born 1977) is a Guatemalan film director, screenwriter, and producer whose work explores social injustice, Indigenous identity, and historical memory. After studying filmmaking in Europe, he gained international recognition with Ixcanul (2015), the first Guatemalan film to compete at the Berlin International Film Festival. He followed it with acclaimed films including Temblores (2019) and La Llorona (2019), which blend personal stories with political and cultural themes. Bustamante is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in contemporary Latin American cinema.
