Med Hondo
Med Hondo (1936–2019) was a Mauritanian-born filmmaker, actor, and activist whose work challenged colonialism, racism, and social inequality. Based in France for much of his career, he directed politically engaged films such as Soleil Ô (1970) and West Indies (1979), which examined the experiences of African and Caribbean communities. Hondo was also a prolific voice actor and is remembered as a pioneering figure in African and diasporic cinema.
