About

A Swedish Love Story is a 1970 Swedish romantic drama that marked the feature film debut of director Roy Andersson. Starring Ann-Sofie Kylin and Rolf Sohlman, the film draws inspiration from the Czechoslovak New Wave and became both a critical and commercial success in Sweden as well as internationally. The story follows two young teenagers who experience first love during a summer marked by family struggles and personal uncertainty. As they grow closer, they remain hopeful and devoted to one another, refusing to be discouraged by the bitterness of the adults around them or the challenges of everyday life. The film was chosen as Sweden's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 43rd Academy Awards, although it did not receive a nomination.
