Chinese American director/writer Cathy Yan’s first feature film was inspired by her experience as a Wall Street Journal reporter in China. As the authorities investigate why thousands of pig carcasses are floating down the Yangtze River into Shanghai, an interwoven narrative that features four local Chinese characters and an American expat looking for their footing in a swiftly evolving nation unfolds.
