Nang Nak
About
During the Siamese-Vietnamese War, Mak leaves his pregnant wife, Nak, in their rural village. After surviving the war, he returns home to find her and their child, unaware that both died during childbirth. When the villagers attempt to reveal the truth, Nak’s ghost violently protects her husband from discovering her secret. Eventually, Mak learns the horrifying truth and seeks refuge at a temple. Despite her desperate desire to remain with him, Nak must finally confront the reality of death. With the intervention of a revered Buddhist monk, she ultimately accepts her fate and bids Mak a sorrowful farewell. The allegedly true story of Mae Nak Phra Khanong is Thailand's most popular ghost tale. A popular shrine dedicated to her at is at On Nut, Sukhumvit Soi 77 in Bangkok's Suan Luang (formerly Phra Khanong) District.
