Roadkill
About
Roadkill is a Canadian independent road movie that combines dark comedy, punk-rock energy, and an irreverent exploration of contemporary youth culture. The film follows aspiring music journalist Ramona, who travels across Canada in search of a missing rock band, the Children of Paradise. Her journey through the country's eccentric landscapes and subcultures becomes an unpredictable encounter with alienated outsiders, musicians, and marginal figures. Shot in a raw, improvisational style, Roadkill subverts conventional road-movie narratives through its fragmented episodes, sardonic humor, and distinctly Canadian sensibility. Blending independent film making with the rebellious spirit of alternative rock, the film became an important work of the Toronto New Wave, helping establish McDonald as a significant figure in Canadian independent cinema.
