About
K, a wealthy and privileged university student, moves into a boarding house run by a widow who hopes to marry her beautiful daughter, Iko, to a successful man. K invites his poor and struggling friend S to live in the room next to him, changing the balance of the household. Both K and S develop feelings for Iko, creating tension and jealousy between them. As class differences and hidden resentment grow, K betrays S’s trust and interferes with his friend’s relationship with Iko, ultimately leading to emotional heartbreak and tragedy. The film is based on the 1914 novel Kokoro by Natsume Sōseki.
