East from the West or The Discreet Charm of the Media
About
East from the West, or the Discreet Charm of the Media (Hungarian title: Nyugattól keletre, avagy a média diszkrét bája) is a 1994 Hungarian satirical road comedy film. The story follows entrepreneur Béla Ivandzsó and his crew as they use an old, abandoned Russian military truck to transport a massive, indestructible, and un-switchable Orion television set. The TV is the grand prize of a lottery competition being delivered from Budapest to the lucky winner, who lives in a remote village in Eastern Hungary. Along the way, the television remains permanently switched on, broadcasting crisp images as they drive across the changing Hungarian landscape. The crew engages in black-market deals, runs into the police, and discovers upon arrival that the intended recipient has actually been jailed for spraying communist graffiti. (source: IMDb)
